twenty-something

So yesterday I turned 22. Hmm, strange coincidence but it seems that the year following a landmark birthday, well namely 18 and 21 (not that they're really any more particularly special), I get sick. As a result I was stuck inside and didn't go out to celebrate. In actual fact I was going to celebrate this weekend, but merry-making, as a certain friend of mine likes to say, will have to probably be postponed to the next. However, I did have a good night out on Tuesday courtesy of PwC who organised a bingo-night at a wine-bar conveniently located behind my house. [I love my firm! The social activities rock and bring us all together in a lively, friendly atmosphere. Also considering other factors, I must say that I'm really looking forward to starting work full-time as it is truly a great environment and I'm pleased about the choice I made on where I should work.] Anyway, to recapitulate, it was quite a fun night and just what I needed. My friends, on realising that it would be my birthday in a few hours' time, proceeded to get me tipsy on the (free) wine. After more laughs, I went back home and ended up having a three-hour long phone call on skype with my friend Petra in England who sang me my first Happy Birthday for the day :)
In the morning it turned out I woke up early for nothing since the lecture was postponed, and I had to stay on at university for an additional two hours. However, I did get a trio of boys singing me Happy Birthday in a university corridor, hehehe. And then I got another (female) rendition, including Mairi from AI, in the AIESEC office. By the way it was great seeing Mairi again, one of the few foreign AIESECers I managed to meet three years in a row :)
Big thanks to all those who sent me greetings via sms, msn and email. Thanks a lot once again Ali for the really sweet message!
So yeah, I'm now 22. Still quite young and still a lot to do and discover. Funnily enough though, last weekend, at one point I felt really old, possibly because I was mainly in the company of people who had just entered university. It seems like yesterday that I was in their shoes, and yet four years have passed. And then during this year, quite often I felt like I was still 18...don't really know why. But as I was speaking to some friends today, all that matters is your attitude and that you're young at heart, willing to learn and willing to grow.

Belated Happy 22nd Birthday, Marie Claire ! And sorry you got sick...seems like you still had a good time though :)

I feel like a dinosaur when I'm at the university...am so glad I don't have classes anymore there. They're all so young, too young for me to want to be around them, hahaha ;-) I mean, 18 vs. 25 .... you know. Even though I'm young at heart and always want to be, there just aren't many interests I share with freshmen students right now :)

Yes, gratitutde is a beautiful thing. If only we'd remember to be more grateful we'd probably be much happier.

Thanks Carissa and thanks again Ali :)
